Mark has more than 30 years’ significant business and financial experience and has consulted with veterinarians and dentists nationally on issues including new practice construction to associate group acquisitions. He has spoken at a number of industry conferences including the North American Veterinary Conference (NAVC), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Annual Meeting, Yankee Dental in Boston, and the Western Veterinary Conference (WVC) on finance, strategic business planning, personal financial planning, retirement, and succession planning issues for practice owners.
He has also spoken for the Massachusetts Bar Association on special needs trust taxation issues. He was the contributing finance editor for the first and second editions of Blackwell’s Five-minute Veterinary Practice Management Consult and wrote the June 2010 VetPartners/American Animal Hospital Association Economic Bulletin.
At one of Accounting Today’s top US CPA firms, Mark managed tax planning and mergers and acquisitions for high net worth families and their related corporations, trusts, and charitable foundations. He oversaw financial operations for a $40 million multi-agency healthcare organization and also took a career detour to become a 911 Paramedic for Worcester EMS, a division of the UMass Medical School. In 2008, the Washington, DC-based Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards appointed Mark to its Council on Examinations for a three-year term to develop the testing methodology, content, and policy for the national CFP® exams governing its 68,000 member body. He has been featured in the Journal of Accountancy, Journal of Financial Planning, and Veterinary Practice News magazine.
A cum laude graduate of UMass-Amherst, Mark is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, the Massachusetts Society of CPA’s, VetPartners—the national association of veterinary practice management consultants—and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Outside of work, Mark enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, swimming, and following the University of Alabama’s ‘Crimson Tide’ football team. Also enjoys spending downtime with his Golden Retrievers Bentley and Bama, and Newfoundland Coach.
With more than 35 years’ tax and accounting experience, Alan provides his clients with a broad range of professional services including tax planning and compliance, management consultancy, and business advisory services.
His clients include dental, veterinary, legal, and other professional practices, manufacturing businesses, real estate holding companies, trusts and estates, and non-profit organizations. In addition to his role at McGaunn & Schwadron, Alan also serves as a trustee of a local private charitable foundation.
He worked for regional and national accounting firms in Boston and New York before starting his own practice in 1991, merging with Mark in 2009.
Alan is a graduate of Northeastern University where he earned a BSc in Business Administration and also has a Master of Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
He is a CPA in Massachusetts, and a member of the American Institute of CPA’s (AICPA) and the Massachusetts Society of CPA’s (MSCPA).
In his spare time, Alan enjoys hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, running, and sailing his 31’ sailboat “Kilifi”.
Emily is responsible for managing our social media, web analytics, and increasing traffic to our website through viral marketing and Search Engine Optimization. She is also responsible for networking, establishing new contacts through conferences and expos. She majored in Mass Communications, graduating with a BA from Westfield State College.
Friendly, approachable, and outgoing, Emily has appeared in the Hollywood films The Fighter, Clear History, Ted 2, and Central Intelligence. In her free time, Emily enjoys skiing, traveling, cooking, discovering new restaurants, CrossFit, snuggling with her rescue dog Theo, and spending time on Cape Cod and in North Conway, NH.
Our Office Manager since 2009, Marcia is in charge of bookkeeping and database management. She previously worked at The Braver Group for 14 years working up from Administrative Assistant to Office Manager.
She graduated from Bryant College, majoring in Executive Secretarial work and Accounting. In her free time, Marcia enjoys spending time with her family and grandchildren, taking long walks, going to the beach, and reading.
Meredith has worked with McGaunn & Schwadron since 2003 overseeing the preparation of individual and entity tax returns. She has a variety of experience, including having worked as Executive Assistant to the President/CEO & VP of Finance/Admin at NetSuite Development Corporation.
She also worked for Sybase Powersoft Division as Sr District Administrator, responsible for the financial and support aspects of two districts. Meredith is married with three children and enjoys spending time with them, walking, gardening, cooking and baking.
Kristen has more than 10 years’ experience in public accounting advising small business owners on accounting systems implementation, bookkeeping and accounting, and tax planning.
Kristen is a graduate of Northeastern University, where she earned her BSBA in Accounting. She is a Massachusetts CPA, and a member of the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA).
In her free time, Kristen enjoys traveling, fitness, meditation, reading, and volunteering with local dog rescues.
